The Details of Maris Racal's Modern Terno Look at the Far East Film Festival
In an interview with Preview, designer Marc Rancy revealed how he approached the design process with a clear vision: to present Filipino formalwear through a more modern, confident lens.
“And now that Maris, I feel, has come full circle over the past year, I wanted [to have] her in a look that is confident without being loud. Festivals like these are always a good vehicle to take our traditional wear to an international audience—a fusion of traditional wear and modern fashion.”

To interpret this idea, Marc reimagined the terno gown’s silhouette and gave it a sheer, form-fitting finish. The butterfly sleeves—made of mocha-colored, translucent organdy—were reinforced with haircloth to maintain its structure, a nod to the traditional formalwear’s signature elements, albeit infused with a more modern sense of lightness.

True to Marc’s personal design philosophy, the look was defined by its fluid draped detailing. A mix of soft tulle and stretch knits sculpted the bodice and hips, accents that contoured her frame and brought a sense of movement to the ensemble. The fabric gathered and cascaded into a floor-length column skirt that moved gracefully with every step.

Complementing the earthy palette of the gown, Maris carried a metallic gold clutch and wore her hair in a fringed, romantic updo. Her soft glam makeup, featuring warm hues and defined eyes, pulled the entire look together.
