We'd say black is back, but did it ever really leave town? Young blood designer Juan Paolo (you might remember his recent SoFA grad collection!) is out to challenge the notion that all-noir evening finery is but a safety net, a fallback—at last night's Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival, he showed a tasteful array of pieces that were simultaneously subdued and statement-making.
Take this floor-sweeping halter number on model Jas Maierhofer, for example. It's elegant and dainty, boasting of a timeless ballgown silhouette merged with ultra-femme deets like tulle shirring and a ruffled neck. We like that it's something gals of today and yesterday would adore wearing to whatever big party's up next. A 1950s soiree? A 2018 charity ball? Both valid.
