Singer and actress Mandy Moore looked every bit the elegant, ethereal star in this year's Academy Awards where she wore a crystal-strewn, flesh-toned confection by designer Monique Lhuillier. The Cebu-born and now Los Angeles-based designer is featured in the March 14, 2011 issue of People magazine, according to PEP.ph. In it she talks about the dresses she made for Mandy for the Oscars—the nude embellished one for the red carpet, and another cobalt blue gown for her onstage performance.
According to the article by Alexis Chiu, the gown on the left of the screencap above (via MandyMooreBlog.com) is reportedly made of 2,500 citrine crystals, gold beads, and matte gold sequins all sewn on illusion tulle. The other, meanwhile, is a corseted gown with a full ball skirt of 75 oversized, hand-rolled silk satin organza rosettes. Monique reportedly wanted to emphasize Mandy's frame and tiny waist.
