Few sartorial motifs are as recognizable as Louis Vuitton’s Monogram. Created in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, the founder’s son, the graphic pattern—characterized by the interlocking “LV” initials, floral motifs, and quatrefoils—was originally developed as both a design signature and a safeguard against counterfeiting. Drawing from Japanese visual codes and Neo-Gothic ornamentation, it has since become inseparable from the House’s identity.
Traditionally rendered on coated canvas and finished with natural cowhide leather, the Monogram has appeared across trunks, luggage, and leather goods for well over a century.

The Louis Vuitton Monogram’s 130-Year Anniversary Collections
This 2026, Louis Vuitton marks 130 years of the Monogram with a year-long celebration. The anniversary unfolds through three capsule collections—Monogram Origine, VVN, and Time Trunk—each reflecting a different chapter of the pattern’s history and craftsmanship.
The celebrations officially began on January 1 with a spotlight on some of the House’s most iconic Monogram bags. These include the Speedy (1930), the Keepall (1930), the Noé (1932), the Alma (1992), and the Neverfull (2007).

The Monogram Origine Collection looks back to the very first 1896 design. It introduces a newly developed Monogram canvas inspired by traditional jacquard weaving, crafted from a linen and cotton blend. Soft pastel tones give the historic pattern a lighter, more contemporary feel, while details reference the cover of an archival Louis Vuitton client register.

Meanwhile, the VVN Collection turns the spotlight on leather craftsmanship. Made entirely from natural cowhide, the pieces highlight the House’s long-standing leather goods tradition. Each item is hand-finished, allowing the material to age naturally and develop a patina unique to its owner.

Rounding out the anniversary offerings is the Time Trunk Collection. This capsule features trompe-l’œil prints that recreate the textures, hardware, and metallic accents of Louis Vuitton’s historic trunks, a nod to the brand’s travel heritage and its beginnings as a trunk-maker.
