It's been more than 25 years since Lea Salonga won a Tony Award for Miss Saigon. And just last week, the broadway star flew all the way to NYC for a long-awaited comeback. This time around, she didn't come as an awardee but as a celebrity presenter! And she indeed looked the part, making a statement on the red carpet with a stunning Rajo Laurel pantsuit.
"She wanted something easy, relaxed, and comfortable—a departure from all the gowns you might expect at the Tony's," says the designer. "Lea loves a tuxedo look. In a way, it's her signature, so we wanted to play on that strength."
For Lea's red carpet appearance, Rajo designed a gunmetal grey suit with handmade embellishments up top. "I wanted something that would dazzle and shine on stage. [The top has] a combination of four different crystal shapes and three various tones of silver from platinum to petroleum." His team carefully attached each piece one by one and managed to complete the suit in less than two and a half weeks.
