With the glamorous, trailing tail end of the dramatic Cannes 2019 red carpet just behind us, there's undoubtedly an empty spot only that brand of fashion theatrics could possibly fill. Filipino designer Daryl Maat volunteers to take on the role, creating this gorgeous lavender ruffled co-ord confection for actress Gabbi Garcia to wear:
Fun fact: Daryl is also a celebrity stylist, making him a true-blue total package. Of the look he crafted for Gabbi's latest Studio 7 appearance, he said, "When I showed her this design, she instantly said she wanted to wear it with her Kurt Geiger Carvela shoes. Gabbi loves fashion, she's not afraid to try anything."
We're not sure what grabbed our attention first. Was it those decadent ruffles? That very current bermuda shorts shape? Here, we pause for a super-quick chat with Daryl on this ultra-sweet, on-trend OOTD.
Was there a certain specific inspiration for this whole look?
"The design was from my previous collection for Manila Fashion Festival, Adagio. I wanted to update the look for my resort line."
Why the color lavender?
"I wanted to do pastels for my upcoming Resort wear line. It's vibrant yet subtle."
Why bermuda shorts? Is it perhaps an allusion to the trend?
"I wanted to make shorts that feature the silhouette of a skirt, but [without being] a skort. So, I made semi bias-cut bermuda shorts instead, marrying the concepts of how to cut a bias skirt and shorts."
