As far as iconic accessories go, few are as instantly recognizable—or as quietly disruptive—as Loewe’s Puzzle bag. When the Spanish house launched it in 2014 under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson, it reshaped the vocabulary of luxury fashion. With its sharp geometric lines, origami-like folds, and ingenious construction, the Puzzle reimagined what a luxury bag could look like, feel like, and function as. Ten years later, it not only sustained its relevance—it’s become more sought-after than ever.

To mark the Puzzle’s first decade, Loewe Philippines flew Preview, along with local fashion insiders, to Hong Kong for a celebratory press junket. In classic Loewe fashion, the trip brought its guests closer to the spirit of invention and surprise that has defined this design since its inception.

The Story of the Puzzle
The Puzzle bag wasn’t born out of nostalgia or a need to revive a house code. It was a completely new proposition—Jonathan Anderson’s first original bag design for Loewe, launching just months after his appointment as Creative Director in 2013. A radical shift for the house, the Puzzle bag was presented in June 2014, debuting on Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2015 men’s show in Paris. Immediately, it set a new tone for the maison: modern, architectural, and inherently multifunctional.

Each Puzzle bag is crafted from 41 precisely cut pieces of leather, meticulously hand-stitched to form its signature geometric silhouette. It takes approximately nine hours and over 500 individual steps to bring one bag to life—a level of craftsmanship that underscores its status as one of the most technically ambitious designs in modern luxury.

It can be worn five different ways: hand-carried, worn on the shoulder, slung across the body, worn as a backpack, or folded flat like a clutch. It adapts effortlessly to one's modern lifestyle.

For a brand steeped in heritage craft and led by a design-first mindset, the Puzzle struck the rare balance of timeless and forward-thinking. It has evolved across scales and silhouettes—from compact crossbodies to oversized weekenders—constantly reinventing itself while staying true to the original vision.

Far from a traditional retrospective, the exhibition served as a dynamic celebration of the Puzzle’s evolution under Jonathan Anderson. Set against sculptural displays and vivid visual backdrops, the presentation spotlighted standout styles: galaxy-printed Manga motifs, pixelated embroidery, Paula’s Ibiza parrots, and intricate handwoven raffia. Each piece echoed his radical approach to silhouette and craft.

Loewe Puzzle 10th Anniversary Collection
Taking center stage was the debut of the Confetti Puzzle bag, created especially for the milestone. Adorned with thousands of tiny leather and metal sequins, it reimagines the Puzzle’s architectural form with exuberance and joy. Rendered in the classic medium silhouette, the Confetti edition is both a collector’s piece and a party-ready statement.

It’s a fitting highlight for the Puzzle’s 10th year and a fresh expression of the playful sophistication that continues to define Loewe, which is now under the reins of new creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez.
