Liza Soberano eased herself back into the spotlight at this year’s ABS-CBN Ball. Not surprisingly with a dashing Enrique Gil by her side, the actress oozed an aura of understated elegance for the annual grand fair.

Stepping on the red carpet in custom Patricia Santos, Liza was a classic beauty in her ivory embroidered terno, rendered with a deep V-neckline and butterfly sleeves. With details to mimic indigenous weave patterns, her frock’s intricate art deco design was made with "a thousand individually placed Swarovski crystals," as revealed by her stylist Perry Tabora.

The exquisite artistry definitely answered the night’s ask to modernize the traditional Filipiniana garb. And as for her beauty look, Liza repped the true dalagang Filipina and kept things simple by pulling her hair back into a modest bun.

Meanwhile, her charming constant Enrique donned a black piña fabric barong with strips of pleated satin, and worn with a high-neck kamisa underneath. According to designer Randy Ortiz, Quen "opted for a classic, clean, and well-fitted barong with no frills and all in piña."

What was the creative direction for her ball look this year?

"We definitely wanted Liza’s look to be aligned with this year’s theme of Modern Filipiñana. Although her gown will definitely not be traditional, it will feature certain hints of our national costume and Filipino culture."

Can you describe what Liza wore?

"Liza wore a dress designed by Filipino designer Patricia Santos. Her gown is intricately embellished with thousands of individually placed Swarovski crystals arranged like weaved indigenous material and tattoo prints on Liza’s skin. The butterfly sleeves are an homage to the traditional Filipiniana and the nude color of the serpentine gown gives an impression that the crystals are adhered directly onto her skin."

Why did you go for that specific designer?

"Liza has been wearing creations of foreign designers for the past couple of years, but for this year’s ball, we wanted to highlight Filipino talent, and Patricia Santos is definitely one of the best. It was a breeze working with her, and she amazingly brought to life the look that Liza and I envisioned."

How involved was Liza in choosing and conceptualizing her outfit for the ball? What was the collaboration like?

"Liza was very involved in the process. When we found out the theme of the ball, I presented her with various pegs and she ultimately decided on which specific direction we will go with this year. She knew what she liked and what she didn’t, and we collaborated seamlessly with Patricia to come up with the final look."
