Fast-rising sensation Maine Mendoza has taken the world by storm with Filipinos from all walks of life hooked on her every move. But with her off-screen persona kept closely guarded, rarely do we see a glimpse of what she’s really like when stripped off her Yaya Dub costumes and the filters of her Dubsmash videos. In our efforts to get closer to her, Style Bible chats up one of Preview’s own, Liz Uy, as we try to find out what it’s like working with the social media phenom.
The first time you worked with Maine, did you have any idea how famous she is or what #AlDub even is?
Yup. My team would always talk about it during meetings with clients or even when I’m with other editors. They are the talk of the town.
How did you feel when news broke out that you were the one she chose to style her?
Did she? I didn’t even know that! I’m very flattered. Thanks, Maine!
Take us back to your first project with her. What did you have her wear? Did she have anything to say about her look?
It was her first TVC ever for McDonald’s. She tried on maybe 5-6 looks, all required for the shoot with some added options. She didn’t have any requests. She was quiet or probably shy as everything was still new to her.
Tell us more about Maine. How is she as a client?
She’s very easy to work with. Very chill and funny!
What’s it like to style a girl who’s become a social media phenomenon?
Wild! My team and I are grateful to be part of all this!
Can't get enough? Watch Maine's first commercial with Liz styling her! Be warned, though: This might instantly make you want to buy a tube of MAC's Ruby Woo or speed dial McDonald's delivery.
