Kim Jones went surfing in a scoopback Cotton On swimsuit, and it's making us long for summer days. The solid color and modest silhouette call to mind the sportif minimalism that has been sweeping the fashion world as of late. Think Jantzen swimsuits from the '90s, and this editorial I did for Preview with Valerie Weigmann and Roy Macam. Fashion magazines work three months ahead of time and so styling folk are all used to working on beach shoots when everyone else is still reeling from Christmas. Here's to looking ahead, to my fearless forecast that the one-piece will outdo the bikini in the swimwear department. If anything, it's comforting to think that the pursuit of abs, like the tides, will soon wash away...
And while I have a sinking feeling Kim got her maillot in Australia, seasons ago, you can always order a pair online from beloved American sportswear brand J. Crew, below. Their scoopbank tank, a reissue of their classic '90s style, is cut a little high on the leg for the right amount of sexy, but not too high that you can't swim laps in them.
