In early 2025, after quietly becoming mister and missus a year priorSandro Tolentino and Kiana Valenciano decided it was time for a much grander celebration of their love. With the rest of their kin around them, the couple tied the knot anew at the Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo, a hillside property situated 17 miles away from Metro Manila.

It was a picture-perfect moment embedded in the memory of their witnesses. Kiana, swathed in an intricately crafted Francis Libiran frock, walked down the aisle with great pride and a full heart. With each step, guests were in awe as they donned their interpretations of the Filipiniana dress code. By the time she made it to the altar, she was at her prime—beaming from within and as happy as she could be. A big catalyst for her “bridal glow,” of course, was her groom.

“Every day, he continues to confirm what I said in my vows,” she gushes to Preview, months after she became Mrs. Tolentino for the second time around. “I was so sure, I had to do it twice!”

Prior to the big day, Kiana played dress up with stylist Lyn Alumno in looks that reimagined bridal wear. With Shaira Luna behind the lens, Kiana was captured in garments that were at once dynamic and romantic. One of the only commonalities between each outfit is that they were rendered in bridal whites.

In an exclusive interview with Preview, Kiana gets candid about her wedding day, divulging how her heritage played a big part in shaping not only her nuptials, but her whole outlook on life post-"I do."

Kiana Valenciano on Being a Filipina Bride
It was a mutual decision for Kiana and Sandro to host a Filipiniana-themed ceremony. Kiana professes that both of them have a “profound love and curiosity” for their family histories, which translated to their chosen motif for both themselves and their guests. “The Filipiniana theme was our way of honoring where we come from,” she explains.

As the anchor of the occasion, both of their looks aimed to represent this part of their identity. “We really wanted the day to reflect who we are as a couple: laidback, inspired by the tropics, and deeply rooted in our culture,” the bride articulates.

Of course, one of the most important looks to prepare was her actual wedding dress. Upon hearing of the couple’s engagement, Francis Libiran had reached out in hopes of dressing Kiana for her walk down the aisle. With their long history of collaborations and Francis’ constant presence in the singer’s milestones, it was practically a no-brainer decision. “Honestly, I knew he was the one,” Kiana candidly says. “It only felt right to have him be part of this chapter, too.”

Fun fact: For the after-party, she slipped into a fun little frock she thrifted while in California. She took the piece to Neric Beltran for some careful restoration, since she knew it was the perfect thing to wear while dancing the night away.

The day before the celebration, Kiana and her bridesmaids treated themselves to some pampering from NEW Lounge. The bride admittedly needed a pep talk to ease her anxieties, and with everyone she holds near and dear booked in the same vicinity, it wasn’t hard to gain a sense of calm.

Before getting some beauty sleep, Kiana had a little slumber party with three of her cousins. It was some sort of tradition of theirs before each one would get hitched. “Sleepovers have been our thing since we were little babies growing up in the same compound. We reminisced about our childhoods, talked about where life has taken us, and gushed (and vented!) about our husbands,” she shares. “I went to sleep that night feeling incredibly loved, blessed, and excited.”

When the glitter settled, Kiana indulged in sleep as her husband made sure their guests were well-accommodated. “We wrapped up in the early hours of the morning and I was just completely overcome by emotion,” she giddily recalls. “All our closest friends stayed with us, making sure we were hydrated, comfortable, and having the time of our lives. I just felt so loved, and so in love.”

It’s been six or so months since Kiana recited her vows, and since then, she’s settled into a lifestyle she fully resonates with. When it comes to her fashion sense, she’s glad she now has two closets to pull from. “As an oversized-loving girl, Sandro’s closet is officially an extension of my own,” she quips. While she believes that the core of her style will remain the same, she does see it evolving in small ways. “Being married to him has brought me a new kind of confidence and comfort that I feel will naturally find its way into how I dress,” she says.

One of her major influences will always be music. Whether on or off stage, the R&B singer is often spotted with her curly locks liberated and in relaxed streetwear. Even as a wifey, she sees herself dancing—and dressing—to her own beat. “I’ve always said that my mood drives my style, and music is what sets the tone for my mood,” she states. “If I feel good in what I’m wearing, that confidence shows up in my performance, my writing, and even my voice.”

In retrospect, Kiana attributes her “bridal glow” to factors beyond what one sees on the surface. After getting married twice, she recognizes how a Filipina bride, and a woman in general, is worth more than just the fancy dresses she wears. “There’s still constant noise about how we should live, what roles we should play, and which traditions we’re expected to follow,” she expresses.

“And while I hold a deep respect for certain traditions, there’s also something so powerful about being a woman today… to have choices, to have agency, and to be seen as essential.”

For Kiana, her wedding (or rather, weddings) represent how she’s taken charge of her narrative, and in effect, the ways she chooses to express her love—for her partner, her heritage, and most importantly of all, herself. “I could go on about all the ways the world still needs to do better..."
