Industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue unveiled his collaboration with luggage brand Tumi – an olive green wheelie with a bamboo handle and trim.

“It’s like those Gucci bags,” he told Style Bible, referring to the luxury label’s classic bamboo-handle purses

While this piece is the only one right now, Tumi’s principals loved it so much that they are bringing it back to the US, though it is undecided if it will be put into production.

Tumi, a New Jersey company known for using a tightly woven textile called ballistic nylon, commissioned Cobonpue to make a concept bag for their 40th anniversary.

To inject warmth, the furniture designer played with his favorite natural materials (he once made a rattan roadster), hand stitching bamboo pieces onto the front of the bag in a random pattern, with hidden zippers to allow the bag to expand. He also added a handle on the side that, with the help of a spring, can be tucked underneath the cloth.

“It’s nice to be holding on to something that’s not plastic,” he said. “Something natural in your hand.”
