Remember when we talked about Kelsey Merritt training like a Victoria's Secret Angel? Well, as it turns out, our observation wasn't too far off, because she's already one step closer to becoming one! Just this week, the Filipina-American model had a photoshoot with the lingerie's activewear line, Victoria's Secret Sport.
A week before the shoot, Kelsey shared the exciting news on her Twitter. Quoting a tweet of hers from 2017 about wanting to work with VS. She wrote, "Remember this tweet? Well...I'm shooting with Victoria’s Secret next week! I cannot contain my happiness [sic]" She then followed up by saying, "If only you guys know I work this hard to make the Philippines proud."
Kelsey received congratulations from many proud Filipinos, including fellow Kashieca ambassador Liza Soberano.
In an exclusive interview with Preview, she reveals how she ticked a VS shoot off her bucket list and more:
Hi Kelsey! Can you tell us how this all happened? How did Victoria's Secret approach you for this project?
"Well, it all happened through my agency here in New York, Supreme Management. I casted for Victoria’s Secret twice before they booked me for the job. The first was a regular casting—they took polaroids of me in lingerie. Then I got a callback the day after. For the callback, they asked me to go on set with Victoria’s Secret and do like a trial shoot with their whole team."
You mentioned on Twitter how it's been a dream of yours to work with VS. How did you feel when you bagged the project?
"I couldn’t believe it. I still can’t believe it. I’ve been modeling for almost six years now and this has been a goal of mine from the start. The competition is so tough here in New York; I could only dream of working with VS."
How did you prepare for the shoot? Any significant changes in your fitness routine and your diet?
"I have been working out a lot prior to the shoot. I try to go to the gym almost every day. I love going to pilates, and [seeing] my personal trainer at my gym, The Dogpound. When I found out I was confirmed for the job, I immediately cut out sweets. I have a sweet tooth, so it was definitely tough. I just kept a healthy, well-balanced diet."
Can you give us a bit of info on the project?
"It’s going to come out soon—will share it will all of you then!"
Can we expect Kelsey Merritt to walk a Victoria's Secret fashion show in the future?
"That is definitely another dream of mine! The competition is really tough here. There are so many gorgeous girls. But a girl can dream."
