Katy Perry took home the silver moon man at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards for “Firework” but in our books, her big statement was a fashion-related one. The singer had four outfit changes that night, one of which, according to fabsugar.com, was dubbed the “Breaking Records” dress designed by Furne One!
The black dress was made of crystal mesh had vinyls splitting in half down the neckline and a matching record hat to sit atop her purple hair that night. In an interview with gulfnews.com, Furne revealed that “the brief I was given was that Katy was breaking records and that I had to create something to represent that.” He goes on to talk about how he scoured Dubai, where he’s based, for old vinyl records, “finally I found some in a store in Meena Bazaar. I had to put in 12 hours daily to have the dress ready in a week before sending it to her stylist in LA.”
It’s not the first time the “California Girls” singer has worn a dress by Furne. He’s created costumes for her California Dreams Tour and she also wore one of his dresses to present an award at the 2011 Logies. Check it out here.
