We wouldn’t be exaggerating when we say that Kathryn Bernardo’s red carpet appearance is one of the most-awaited moments of the evening every year at the Star Magic Ball. She is, after all, the Teen Queen. And as the brightest of stars gather for ABS-CBN’s biggest annual event, we all keenly look forward to what and who she’ll be wearing.

This year, the 20-year-old actress managed to surprise us yet again. Gone is the sweet teenybopper in big fairytale ball gowns. Wearing an intricately beaded Michael Cinco creation, she switches to the dark side and opts for a sultrier look, with peach-based makeup and wet hairstyle to boot.

Get to know more about Kathryn’s red carpet look below and find out how she prepared for the ball—all exclusively revealed to Preview by her stylists, Kim and Boop Yap.

“Kath was very involved [in the decision-making process] about her look for this year's ball. She wanted to go the minimalist, classic route. We exchanged ideas with each other weeks before the ball and we discussed the final look that we wanted with Michael Cinco.”

“Less is more. That’s the style direction we were going for, so we wanted a gown with an elegant silhouette. It's hand embroidered and fully beaded with black Swarovski crystals and pailettes. It also has the intricate details and embellishments that Michael Cinco is known for. The gown itself is timeless and when you look back ten years from now, it will still be relevant.”

“Kath has never worn a necklace to the ball before so we thought that with this year's look, it was the best time to do so.”

“We layered two diamond necklaces from Luvi Jewelry and matched it with dangling diamond solitaire earrings and a ring with a black stone and diamonds from JMA Jewelry.”

“We had a couple of options for her minaudière, but we ended up choosing a simple black clutch that would complement her all-black fully beaded gown.”

“It has been a while since Kath wore black to the Star Magic Ball. We all felt that this year was the perfect time to go for an all-black gown. Black is also a classic color that never goes out of style, and it perfectly complements the classic silhouette of the gown.”

“We love working with Michael Cinco. He is always so easy to work with. We have worked with him already on several other different occasions, and he's always brilliant yet humble, and is open to ideas.”
