Katarina Rodriguez was a total showstopper at the recent Miss World 2018 pageant held in China, and the cascading, ornate lavender Francis Libiran evening gown she wore onstage only made her even more regal.
Doesn't she look like absolute royalty? We've actually found the exact dress she donned—it's from Francis' collection dubbed Opulence of the Golden Era of Art Deco.
It's opulent, alright! Fitting frock for a queen, we think. Here, Preview.ph chats with the great designer himself to dish about the glittering, intricate frock Katarina shone in! Read on for all the deets.
The gown is part of your recent Art Deco collection. What made Katarina select it from among the others in the line?
"When we were conceptualizing the design of Katarina’s evening gown, we sure wanted it to be one-of-a -kind. When she visited the atelier, she expressed to me her vision for the gown: embroidered form-fitting. And then she saw my new collection on display and marveled on the intricacy of each piece. I asked her to try on a piece from my new collection so we can see if that particular silhouette and color way would fit her. When she came out of the fitting room, she said she doesn’t want to take it off anymore. I guess she fell in love with it and I must say that it looked perfect on her!"
Could you describe to us the fabric it's made of and the pattern of the beadwork?
"It is made of fine soft tulle, fully embellished with hand-sewn art deco embroidery. We made use of different stones and crystals in different hues to create a perfect illusion of patterns."
What was the process of choosing her gown like? Could you take us through it?
"It was very smooth and easy! Katarina fell in love with the gown and that’s where it all began."
Were there any special requests/alterations Katarina wanted on the gown?
"None at all. The gown fit Katarina really well, like it was actually made for her."
