With the rise of Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH), a popular social simulation game on Nintendo Switch, a lot of us have found a virtual solace in quarantine. In the game, we can create a world where players can live vicariously through the cute characters they have created and on an island they themselves decorated.
Now, what's a girl got to do when she loves dressing up but has nowhere to go? Turn to virtual gaming, of course! In Animal Crossing, you get to design your own island, as well as create your own outfits! Fashion photographer-slash-musician Kara Chung found it as an opportunity to showcase the most stylish OOTDs on ACNH. Thus, the birth of Animal Crossing Fashion Archive!
The IG account, which now has over 47,800 followers as of writing, serves as a repository of the many ways you can customize your ACNH character’s outfits. Players from different parts of the world submit their virtual OOTD photos to get featured. You’ll see them wearing their own creations or donning designer labels like Burberry, Marc Jacobs, and Chanel to name a few.
In fact, Kara has collaborated with other fashion brands to work on virtual fashion editorials. Valentino has tapped her to feature their Spring and Pre-Fall 2020 collections. Virtual clothing designs were done by Kara’s artist friends.
Recently, Kara, stylist Marc Goehring, and the folks behind Berlin-based fashion org Reference Festival even staged the first-ever Animal Crossing runway show. It extends Animal Crossing’s high fashion reach, with Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Balenciaga added to the lineup. In fact, Vogue caught on and featured her two-month-old account on their site!
With several ACNH players flooding the comments and asking for designer outfit codes, we can only conclude that fashion and gaming can co-exist and run the virtual world, one stylish outfit at a time!
