With Disney's live-action Moana now in cinemas, the beloved wayfinder's story has once again captured audiences through its themes of courage, identity, and venturing beyond the horizon. In the Philippines, that spirit found another voice through Kai Montinola, who recently performed Hangganan Ko, the Filipino rendition of How Far I'll Go.

For a special appearance at SM Seaside City Cebu, the singer-actress made sure her wardrobe was just as memorable as her performance. Styled by Adrianne Concepcion, Kai wore a custom Maison Soriano creation that transformed Moana's signature island aesthetic into a sophisticated display of Filipino craftsmanship.

Kai Montinola Channels Moana in a Custom Maison Soriano Look

Instead of recreating Moana's costume piece for piece, Maison Soriano translated its defining elements into a look that felt more wearable. Rather than leaning into costume, the look relied on materiality, texture, and craftsmanship to convey the reference, making it just as appropriate for a stage performance as for a fashion moment.

The strapless bodice, rendered in a rich terracotta hue, served as the focal point. Woven strips formed an intricate lattice across the corset, punctuated by carefully placed cowrie shells that introduced texture and subtle maritime symbolism. The interplay between the structured silhouette and artisanal detailing echoed traditional weaving techniques, while maintaining the polished finish expected of the Filipino designer's work.

Flowing from the waist was a dramatic tiered skirt crafted from layers of raffia fringe. The natural fibers swayed effortlessly with every movement, giving the gown a sense of fluidity that mirrored the ocean—a fitting reference for Disney's fearless voyager. Sheer champagne-toned panels broke up the texture between each tier, while delicate shell trims tied the organic materials together with understated refinement.

Stylist Adrianne Concepcion kept the accessories minimal, opting for a shell-and-starfish necklace that complemented the gown. Brent Sales styled Kai's hair in soft, voluminous waves, while Remcy Cardona balanced the statement look with fresh, luminous makeup featuring softly flushed cheeks and a natural peach-toned lip.
