Congratulations, John!

If we’re to talk about local bridal designers, there are certain names that immediately come to mind. These pros in the wedding industry never fail to serve dreamy looks and make any bride feel special as she walks down the aisle. John Herrera is most certainly one of them.

Since the beginning of his fashion career in 2004, John has been making the Philippines proud by bagging awards (he won Britain’s Top Designer in 2017!) and continuously pushing the envelope with his penchant for intricate details and bold, kaleidoscopic prints. He's certainly come a long way, recently opening his first flagship store at Shangri-la Plaza where his future brides can now easily have their dream wedding gowns made.

In an exclusive interview with Preview, John shares everything you need to know about House of Herrera’s latest bridal line.

You just released your 2018 bridal collection. Can you tell us more about the design process?

“Designing a bridal collection, both for the haute couture and off-the-rack lines, was challenging for me because of the attention to detail that is required. The quality and fit have to be impeccable, so my team and I had to shape up and do more than our best.”

What was your inspiration for this line?

“Inspiration-wise, I just looked at the pictures of my travel to Paris—the third time was for Vicki Belo’s wedding. It's truly inspirational for a bridal designer like me.”

How would you describe a John Herrera bride?

“Beauty and grace fit for a modern royal, and never over the top.”

You just recently opened your flagship store. How did you come up with the interior design of your atelier?

“I always look to the antiquities wing of the Louvre whenever interior design is required of me. Whether in my home or the showroom, I always imagine a certain aristocratic vulgarity in the design and feel of these spaces—the ancient clashing with the modern, never too polished.”

How are your designs reflected in your atelier?

“For me, they’re one and the same—a classic aesthetics with modern cut and fit, [like] Elizabethan corsets with see-through panels.”
