When it was announced last September that actress Jodi Sta. Maria bagged an Emmy nomination for her breakout role as Amor Powers in the ABS-CBN television series Pangako Sa ’Yo, all we could think of was who she'd be wearing. After all, the goal is to win not only on stage but on the red carpet as well.
With roughly two months to prepare, Jodi and her stylist Patricia Coronado enlisted the help of some of our very own local designers to glam her up for a series of events lined up for the 44th Annual International Emmy Awards.
Below, see how she rocked New York while proudly wearing Filipino designers:
Jodi made her first appearance at the opening ceremony in a two-piece ensemble by Bessie Besana.
"We wanted to send that feel of a classic chic New Yorker that is perfect for fall," Bessie says of her outfit. "We paired the jacket with my signature jumpsuit in a closed neckline."
For the Nominees Medal Ceremony, she switched it up with an ivory Patty Ang top paired with matching trousers, topped off with dangling pearl earrings from Ocampo Jewellery and a quirky Philippine flag minaudiere.
"The top is from my Fall/Winter 2016 collection. I loved dressing up Jodi because she brings out elegance in each outfit," says Patty.
For the main event, Jodi stood out in a clean, fresh, and oh-so-chic white Mark Bumgarner frock.
As to how they decided on the said dress, Mark explained that it pays homage to the TV character she was nominated for. "We agreed to make it white, with a sleek and chic silhouette." He adds, "I also took into consideration the fact that it will be freezing cold in New York during the awards night. Out of the three sketches I presented, Jodi chose the long-sleeved and haltered neckline with an open back detail. I added a train to make it more red carpet-worthy and little sparkles in some areas."
The designer also revealed to Preview what it was like to work with Ms. Amor Powers herself, and he had nothing but praises for the talented actress. "I love working with Jodi because she’s open to my ideas and her figure is incredible. To be honest, I feel like I can make her wear anything. And her face is classically beautiful, she doesn’t need to over compensate with an over-the-top the dress," Mark shares.
Now we just have to wait for her closing ceremony look! But so far, it looks like Jodi's scoring some straight As for her first ever Emmy appearance.
