Fashion knows no boundaries when it comes to creative expression. May it be manifested on the runway or on the cover page of glossies, the industry is simply centered around the artistic vision and unique concepts of the community.

But believe it or not, fashion isn’t all about brands and apparel! Since the rise of technology, this art form has gone beyond its stereotypical notions and has opened its doors to the digital world. Here, graphic design, blogging and editing is at the core of its operations. So when we stumbled upon radio host personality, Jazmin Reyes’ creative fashion parodies, we knew we had to ask her a few questions about her imaginative creations.

Like many of us, Jaz used this time in quarantine to reinvent and explore our interests. In an exclusive interview with Preview, Jaz shared with us how this has been a long standing idea of hers already. "The pandemic changed everything and it’s sort of an exodus of what I was. Much like what we all had to go through; we had to make changes, pivot and renew," she said. "But these ideas have been in my head for a while and it’s not something I shared because I didn’t think anyone cared to see it! Most of the things I do come from topics I want to discuss. [These are] very emotionally-rooted ideas. I think the pandemic pushed me to just go out and present it so that I have an outlet to at least talk about it in my own way."

Her creative Instagram posts have not only tackled high fashion in a different perspective, but have also delved into issues regarding the ongoing global pandemic, online validation, and even the societal issues our country is currently going through.

If you’re a fan of Jaz’s content, you’ll know that she draws a lot of inspiration from high fashion brands and trends. You can either take it literally or go deeper. But her dose of high fashion content most definitely comes with a humorous twist. The radio host tells us that she always loves to inject some fun and culture into the mix no matter what.

"I’ve always thought that high fashion shouldn’t be an elitist concept. High fashion is art and art should be appreciated in many forms by all. So, I used to make fashion commentaries with fashion history or some fashion 101 and bring comedy into it to attract more people to fall in love with the art too."

Apart from that, she also takes excess waste into consideration. When creating certain pieces, Jaz always brings resourcefulness to the table. "I usually find whatever is at home. I try source materials that are already there [instead of] having to purchase and make more waste. Most items are actually recycled items or vintage pieces that I refurbished.”

As Jaz argues, fashion nowadays isn’t what you think it is. "I think people have to realize that as stuffy as the fashion world seems to be, they’re loosening up. And connecting to these people can come in all sorts of methods. Like when I did the Fendi pizza bag, the Sylvia Fendi reposted it and I realized that she, too, has fun with the house and design."

And in any case the pandemic and quarantine has got your creative bone stumped and dried out, Jaz reminds us, "Inspiration comes from all parts of your human existence and that in itself is art and it should be worth celebrating." Hear, hear!
