After a very messy breakup with Lanvin, rumor has it that Alber Elbaz is about to either jump ship or land a major collaboration with Japanese high street label, Uniqlo. Last October, the former Lanvin Creative Director ended his 14-year relationship with the French fashion house over conflict with its owner Shaw-Lan Wang and CEO Michèle Huiban. Opening up after his departure, Elbaz shared that letting go of something he loved for so long wasn't exactly easy. “Since I left Lanvin I have a huge scar. For the first couple of months, I walked around Paris and it was raining. I never knew if it was the rain or my tears," he shared.
But it seems that the Israeli designer is beginning to pick up the pieces again as word on the streets is that he just met with the big bosses of fast fashion big gun, Uniqlo. Whether it’s about getting him a position with the Japanese label or to launch a collaboration (as they have done in the past with the likes of Christophe Lemaire, Jil Sander, and Ines de la Fressange), we will have to wait and see. Both parties are still mum about the details but we do hope there is some truth to the collab at least, because we certainly cannot wait to see his draping skills and fancy for to-die-for cocktail dresses at arm’s reach without burning a hole in our pockets.
