Remember Paris Hilton's sparkly mini dress?

Celebrities are beacons of fashion. Whatever they wear can launch a thousand duplicates and perhaps even become a marker of trends. In any case, they are statement makers and icons to be remembered long after. Take a trip down memory lane and see the most memorable 2000s celebrity fashion:

1. Britney Spears at the 2001 American Billboard Awards.

Before denim on denim was a thing, then-couple Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake already knew how to wear head-to-toe denim AND couple twinning.

2. Paris Hilton's 21st birthday, 2002.

Paris' slinky silver dress got resurrected when top model Kendall Jenner wore an almost identical outfit on her birthday.

3. Avril Lavigne at the 2002 MTV Awards.

Who could forget Avril's skater chic fashion? From tank tops to cargo pants, borrowing from the boys was something Avril taught us during the decade (i.e. stealing your dad's necktie).

4. P!nk at the 2001 Billbord Awards

Pink has always been adventurous when it comes to sartorial choices. But perhaps the most iconic one was her completely see-through crochet dress, proof that faux-bohemian fashion in the aughts really did happen.

5. 2003 Mariah Carey at the American Music Awards

Mariah Carey's plunging slip dress did not only echo the '90s; it further propelled the thin straps trend as the early noughties progressed.

6. Missy Elliot at the 2003 Grammy's

Long before the Hadid sisters, Missy Elliot knew just how comfortable it is to dress up in sports luxe. Who could forget her pink Velour adidas track suit?

7. 2000 Jennifer Lopez at the MTV awards

Plunging both in front and at the back, with a front high slit and in an almost see-through fabric, can only ever be pulled off by Jenny from the block. To this day, we see daring duplicates. Just check out Angelina Jolie's black number at the 2012 Oscars.

8. Gywneth Patrow at the 2002 Oscars

That sheer bodice a la Gwyneth's Alexander McQueen frock is a bold statement we hopefully won't want to see in the near future, lest done right this time around.

9. The hat everyone wore.

The '00s saw a fascination with hats. From fedoras and crochet berets to trucker hats and newspaper boy hats, they were worn everywhere—even on the red carpet!

10. 2004 Nicole Richie

The 2000s wouldn't be complete without including the other half of The Simple Life, Nicole Richie. Before monochrome dressing was a thing, Nicole was already all over it, and in a bright color at that. Here's something to remind us that she also wore asymmetrical hems and halter necklines way before they were cool!
