Most 60-year-olds prefer the ease of wearing slides, save for Tessie Singson, who prefers sneakers.

When we talk about sneakers, you'll notice that many of the younger folks would join in the conversation. Talks of the latest Yeezys, the newest AF1 cops, or perhaps the coolest collabs travel through the grapevine, and passed on amongst groups. It is quite rare to see anyone over the age of 50 take particular interest in sneakers. So, when 65-year-old Tessie Singson says she's harboring deep love for this trendy footwear, we're sure she's got cool tricks on how to style them.

More commonly known at Lola Androgynous on Instagram, Tessie is a fashion enthusiast who has a defined sartorial aesthetic. She tells Preview in an exclusive interview that her style is exactly like her IG handle: granny, androgynous fashion. "It's a cross between minimalist monastic menswear and romantic granny womenswear with '90s maximalist accessorizing."

Her daily uniform involves something "oversized and flowy." And unlike most people, this golden girl doesn't let age get in the way of being her most stylish self. Just like her swanky fashion idols, Rei Kawakubo and and Yohji Yamamoto, she likes to march to the beat of her own drum. "I think what matters is that you feel good and you are comfortable with what you wear whatever it is. Once you have this realization, then, you can wear whatever you want," she explains.

Hence, where most 60-year-olds prefer the ease of wearing slides and slingbacks, this granny prefers tall combat boots, mary janes, flatforms, and of course, sneakers. In fact, she lists JW Anderson's Run Star Hike Chucks as her sneaker of the moment—the comfiest pair she owns!

Lola A's ardour for kicks is especially evident in her Insta-feed. Quickly pull up her account and you'll see her alternating Rick Owens sneakers, Maison Margiela kicks, and even a pair of sneaks from cult fave brand Acne Studios. According to Tessie, her sneaker-and-outfit combo is governed by two simple rules. One, when dressing in monochrome, your sneaker should do the talking. And two, "If [the] outfit is already out there then, tone down [the] shoes and wear something more basic." In sum: Balance is key.
