Who says denim is too casual?

Gone are the days when pencil skirts and suits are your only options for office dressing. Nowadays, even denim can pass for appropriate workwear—if you know which piece to wear and how to style them. Don't believe us? Read on and learn some easy tips.

Achieve the preppy look.

Denim dresses can look too casual on its own. But if you can't get enough of the comfort it offers, layer underneath an office closet staple that will never do you wrong: a crisp white button down. It doesn't matter if the sleeves run longer than your denim piece—that's actually the point. Make your layering obvious when styling these two together to get the maximum effect of the preppy look.

Get away with embellishments on your jeans.

Skip the distressed denim jeans and opt for embellished ones. Whether you're buying or DIY-ing, match your pearl-dotted pants with a top with statement sleeves to amp up the look. Slip on a pair of colored booties (preferably in the same blue shade as your jeans) to add some inches to your height.

Athleisure with denim is possible.

Denim tops paired with denim jeans is a no-brainer combination. While the aforementioned is a tried and tested combo, it can also look ordinary. Switch it up and pair your denim blouse with an athleisure-inspired bottom. Maybe a wide leg side stripe trouser? Or perhaps a jersey midi skirt like so. Complete with lace-up heels for an unexpected detail in your ensemble.

Amp up the denim on denim trend.

Add a spin to the denim on denim trend by breaking the pair with a printed piece. For instance, layer over a denim mini skirt over a shift dress. Add a jean jacket and you're good to go!

Ditch the feminine florals.

Denim jeans don't just come in blue hues. Take advantage of its darker iterations to toughen up your florals. Slip on dark sock boots so you don't break the illusion of having legs for days!
