Rajo Laurel took a headstart on the Christmas season, presenting House of Laurel's Holiday 2008 collection two months in advance.

The look was Film Noir meets the 20s—lopsided fedoras, pretty fascinators, dramatic makeup, and the songs of Cole Porter set the mood. “I wanted to do something a bit masculine for this collection,” said Rajo, “so there are a lot of tailored lines and suits.”

Models came out looking like jaunty newsies. School boy polos and skinny black ties tucked into pencil skirts; a ruffled shirt matched the volume of elephant trousers. Suits took a high note done in a rich wine with hints of gold (a bold choice but the shade still stays in check with his usual decadent luxury). It also seems that Rajo Man is now expanding its scope—slim jacquard suits and darkly masculine shirts held their own against the women's wear.

The love affair with flapper fashion continues as knee-length dresses in the distinct shapeless silhouette appeared in luxuriously long fringes and richly sequined lace. A fully beaded, fringed tube is available for those women who prefer to stick to pants.

Of course, a collection by Rajo wouldn't be complete without a few more intricate pieces. The elaborate ruffles on the dress that graced Preview's September 2008 cover was redone in black, covering a beautiful ball skirt and knee-length number apart from a dramatic black gown.
