Daphne Oseña-Paez's Take on Holiday Dressing

Easy dressing for the woman who loves simplicity.
Daphne Oseña-Paez's Take on Holiday Dressing Easy dressing for the woman who loves simplicity.

By this time, a lot of the office and corporate Christmas parties are done. You may now be focusing on family events, reunions, and perhaps New Year’s eve. It is always nice to keep the festive spirit alive at least through your choice of clothes.

I love wearing rich and textured fabrics such as brocades, velvets, and silks over the holidays. But since I live in the tropics, this can sometimes be a bit tricky. My choices are usually dictated by the climate and situation of the event, some parties are within air-conditioned interior spaces while some are al fresco. To be safe, I choose lighter lace, eyelet cotton fabric, and loose clothing.

Let me share with you my choices, mostly from my one stop shop for fashion, K & Company.

You can pair wide leg pants in a heavy weave with a light eyelet lace bell-sleeved top. Since the separates are both so textured, I kept my accessories light. Tasseled earrings from Bauble Bar do the trick.

You can never go wrong with a red dress over the holidays. This is a classic that every chic woman should have in her closet. This season, K & Company does the lace dress perfectly again with the Camille dress. As if the lace wasn't rich enough, they added more appliques towards the hemline. With a dress this ornate, keep everything else low key–like nude pumps and bejeweled earrings.

The Carmi brocade bell-sleeved top works perfectly for the holidays – as it adds drama not only with the texture of the fabric but also with that unusual silhouette in the sleeves. The extra come-on is that the blouse is meant to be worn loose–all the better to eat more with. Since there’s a lot going on top, I kept my bottom simple and sleek with this wrap skirt by Mandy de la Rama.

A very rare time I go matchy-matchy. These short-sleeved top and cropped pants give maximum comfort especially when I am entertaining at home. As usual, I keep everything else simple and let the outfit take center stage.
