Hervé Léger, known for the creation of the notorious bandage dress of the early noughties, has passed away today.
Though known by the surname Léger, Hervé's actual surname is Peugnet. While he was working at Fendi with Karl Lagerfeld, Karl advised him to make the switch. "I said, 'Hervé, this name is not possible, it's too heavy,'" Karl said, and the easier-to-pronounce Hervé Léger was born.
He then moved on to create one of the most iconic dress silhouettes known today. Made from tightly knitted strips of fabric, the dress puts the wearer's curves on full display.
The fashion world will miss you, Hervé. Rest in peace.
