Filipiniana-themed weddings are a breath of fresh air. Let's face it: It's not every day that you get to see a crowd of people dressed in handwoven, symbolic textiles, and distinctively local silhouettes. Thus, if you get the chance to attend such a celebration, make sure to source gorgeous garments from homegrown producers.

If hearing the word "Filipiniana" still conjures up memories of your high school's annual Buwan ng Wika and periodic field trips to anthropology museums, consider it time to reboot your perspective. Local outfits do not have to be equal costumes, and these outfits are proof. We've rounded up some wedding attendee looks, as well as where you can shop them. Take a look:

For weddings that adhere to a more traditional, formal aesthetic: Play off the barong tagalog or the classic terno silhouette.

Balik Batik's garments are all 100% handwoven and hand-embroidered by the Itneg, an ethnic group from Abra. The Itneg have a tradition of embroidering symbols and icons on their clothes, so you're sure to find a garment that speaks to you. You'll find butterfly-sleeved blouses in a multitude of colorways, as well as blazers, jackets, scarves, and skirts—essentially everything you need to put together a stylish outfit.

Attending a hip wedding? Add a playful Filipiniana touch to a modern boho ensemble.

Anthill Fabric similarly produces custom pieces from textiles handwoven by artisans in Abra. They specialize in highly stylable pieces that you'll be able to wear regularly, outside of formal events. Their overall aesthetic is quite youthful, too, so if you're worried that wearing Filipiniana-inspired garb will make you look too stern or mature, make sure to check out their pieces before coming to any conclusions!

Weddings aren't all serious– if the theme permits, why not step out and flaunt powerful prints and fearless silhouettes?

For garden cermonies and/or intimate hotel receptions, opt to don vibrant skirt suits and modern terno gowns like these ones from Filip + Inna. The textiles are again handwoven by artisans from various provinces, and the garments are evidently constructed with top-grade craftsmanship. Their flavor is resplendently local, and any wedding guest would dream of wearing their pieces.
