Designer tote bags hold a very special place in every woman’s closet. Timeless, roomy, undeniably chic, and comfortable to wear, a carry-all bag is a must-have for anyone who can’t live with tiny purses—also, it’s the perfect bag for all your work and travel essentials. So it’s not surprising that Gucci has come up with their new boxy tote!
Each design is named after favorite resort destinations from all over the world. The woven leather tote features a colorful Gucci embroidery and weave on its front and back panel, leather handles, plus a detachable leather strap—a leather patch with the words “Monte Carlo,” “Capri,” “Mykonos,” and three other summer hot spots are highlighted per colorway. That said, what really caught our eye is the bag’s overall design, which reminds us so much of the humble bayong.

Remember when Balenciaga released a bag that looked so similar to the plastic palengke bags you’d buy in Baguio? And just recently, the now iconic Dior Book Tote actually holds a very similar bayong-like shape albeit with a Parisian twist. The Gucci woven tote, however, might be the most similar to our own traditional woven grocery bag because of its vibrant color combinations.
If Gucci's new must-have is any indication, it's only an additional confirmation of what we already know: that Filipino design and aesthetic are world-class. Guess it’s time to flaunt your lola’s old bayong to that next grocery trip!
