TikTok trends and challenges range from snappy hip-thrusting dances, to food recipe hacks, to clever fashion fixes you can watch a thousand times over. That said, one trend that has taken TikTokers by storm as of late is the #GucciModelChallenge.
The template features a voice over by user @morganpresleyxo, and you need to put on the clothes specified in her spiel to join in on the fun. When you scroll through Presley’s TikTok, it’s obvious that she loves fashion and regularly produces content that’s based on “recreating” a certain look.
The hilarious script goes like this: “Hey, ya’ll! Today I’m going to show you how to look like a Gucci model. Gucci, if you’re watching this, please let me model for you. First off you need a random turtleneck, make it colorful. Then some random shirt that doesn’t match it. And then a random vest—layering is important. And then a bright green or bright colored jacket. Some vinyl pants. Maybe put on a mini skirt on top of that? I know, stylish! A head scarf. This is very crucial; this is a Gucci staple. I have my Gucci sunglasses on. Some clear heels with some socks of course. Some bright pink lipstick. And just like that I’m a model for Gucci.”
Presley’s on-point description of a “Gucci model” is based off of Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s signature granny chic (and kitsch) aesthetic for the brand that we often see all over their campaigns.
The hashtag #GucciModelChallenge has around 21.9 million views on TikTok (as of this writing) and the trend got so popular that Gucci (yes, the brand itself!) acquired the voice over by @morganpresleyxo. Now, the quippy and fun VO is directly linked to the official Gucci account on TikTok, and the luxury house has been reposting their favorite entries so far! One of their latest uploads is actually by Filipina TikToker @itsfionatho, who we think nailed the challenge like a pro!
To prove how fun it is to do, we asked Reins Mika, Iya Omaña, Dan Soliman, Teta Melo, Abby Muñoz, and Mae Fuentebella of the Preview Clique to try it themselves on our official TikTok. It’s safe to say that all their outfits look runway-ready!
