Ayala Malls launch their designer totes.
Green Piece Ayala Malls launch their designer totes.

The world is becoming increasingly conscious and malls, stores, and supermarkets are all trying to do away with plastic (except credit cards, of course). It's no secret that the newer Ayala Malls have been built with the environment in mind—lush gardens scattered amidst the mortar, ponds that act as reservoirs for rainwater, and architecture that keeps the atmosphere nice and cool so as to lessen the load of the air-conditioning units.

Their newest project involves promoting the use of reusable totes. What sets theirs apart from the many options out there is that they've tapped different designers, all part of Greenbelt 5's Filipino Zone, to design the bags. Jun Escario, Louis Claparols, Michi Calica, Patrice Ramos-Diaz, Randy Ortiz, and Vic Barba each designed very cool styles that you certainly won't mind using as your main carryall.

This earth-friendly philosophy of Ayala Malls, dubbed “Greenology,” adds a charitable helping hand that extends beyond the use of these bags. With every purchase, the retail price is P400, P100 is automatically donated to the World Wildlife Fund. The rest of the proceeds of each specific bag goes to the designers' chosen organizations.

The Ayala Malls Eco Totes will be available at the concierge of each Ayala Mall starting August 21, 2009.
