After millennial pink's strong reign during the past year—from runway trends and beauty brands to dozens and dozens of Instagram feeds—a new “it” color is now on the move to oust it from its throne. Everyone, say hello to Gen Z yellow!

According to Elle Australia, Gen Z yellow is a “bright, bubbly, flirtatious yellow” that represents the new generation. However, it’s not just limited to one particular shade. Man Repeller notes that it ranges “from buttercream to melted butter and beyond.” (Think Selena Gomez’s Fetish music video, in which the singer wore several frocks in varied hues of yellow punctuated by a lemon-tinted film effect.)

Just like how millennial pink wasn’t simply a color but also a representation of a generation that upholds a strong sense of feminism, Gen Z yellow is not just another fad. Rather, it’s an embodiment of a new age that thrives in its quirks, embraces its flaws, and sees being different in a positive light.
