It doesn’t happen often: discovering a song with a title that instantly intrigues you, only to feel the goosebumps rise the moment you hit play. But that’s exactly what happened when I first heard Filipina Queen by G22.

The three-member girl group—composed of AJ Yape, Alfea Zulueta, and Jaz Henry—is known for championing confidence through lyrics rooted in empowerment. It’s no surprise they’ve earned the title of P-pop’s female alphas. Their unapologetic energy doesn’t just live in their music or stage presence; it’s also embedded in the outfits they wear while performing.

The Anatomy of a G22 Member’s Style, According to Their Stylist and Creative Director

With a clear sense of identity, the girls of G22 don’t just write and produce their own music—they’re also deeply involved in how their songs are visually brought to life. Having worked with them for over a year now, stylist and creative director Eldzs Mejia understands this firsthand. “At the heart of our relationship is trust,” Eldzs shares in an exclusive interview with Preview.

Ahead, get a closer look at the thought process behind G22’s fashion and how each member embraces her individuality while sharing the same palaban spirit.

How would you describe the styles of Jaz, AJ, and Alfea? What are their similarities and differences?

“The girls of G22 are very different when it comes to their personal styles. Jaz is very feminine, but as a Gemini, sometimes she’ll go fierce and even quirky depending on her mood.

“I think what they all share in common is their flexibility and their ability to adapt and own a variety of styles.”

What are the key elements for each of their looks?
“A direction we’re doing for G22 is to be able to create visual identities—or as we’d like to call it, eras—for every comeback single they’re promoting. If you take them all together, because they’re roughly the same height and body type, and they have very distinct looks, they look like fashion models. At the very core, the styling direction for the girls is very fashion-centric and runway ready.
“I usually start by defining a silhouette that works for them individually and find a way to make it cohesive as a group. It’s very important that I’m able to balance their individual needs and wants in terms of dressing up, while making sure that they work together as one unit when they perform next to each other.
“For this particular era, we’ve managed to create a signature direction that takes bits and pieces from their individual styles, and reflects their maturity at the same time. They’ve come a long way since their debut three years ago, and now more than ever, they’re owning and celebrating their womanhood.”
As a stylist, how do you approach the responsibility of making the looks work whether they stand as a group or as individuals?
“Aside from being their stylist, I am also their creative director. Juggling these two responsibilities, while tough, is also natural since I’m able to make sure that everything the girls do visually is cohesive and holistic.

“Since I have a background in fashion publishing, I visualize the girls as part of a fashion editorial every time they have a project. Individually they can stand on their own, but there still has to be a connecting thread that unifies them, whether it’s through color, silhouette, material, or a vibe.”

How do you stay in theme with their eras while letting their personalities shine?
“I think the girls understand that as a group, they all have to come together to create a singular image. Much like singing—they have distinct voices and ranges, but they have to be able to marry those and find perfect harmony. There are instances wherein the girls really need to dress up in coordinated looks, but if we have a bit more freedom, I make sure to inject a little bit of their personality.
“But what’s really amazing is that even if they’re dressed similarly, the girls are still able to shine individually through their personalities and even through their hairstyles. When they’re on stage, you could really tell who AJ is from Jaz and Alfea, and vice versa.

“They’re very comfortable with and know exactly who they are first and foremost, and I think that instantly makes them stand out.”
