Future Tense Meet the bags of Rafē New York's Fall '08 line.
Rafē Totengco was in Manila briefly for a number of to-dos and on the list was to stop by the Rafē New York boutique in Greenbelt 5 to personally present his Fall '08 collection. Titled Future Chic, his latest crop of muse-inspired (and so-christened) designs are garbed in dusty metallic leathers or gleaming embossed patent, with the occasional twinkling jewel or shiny bit of hardware here and there.

As is the case with most of his bags, there's something delightfully familiar and wonderfully feminine about his latest line. If you're riding high on the wave of super-sized totes, you'll love Gloria with its boxy yet supple holdall size. It comes in beautiful croc-embossed patents that look richly slick, as though they've just been oiled. A more petite, but still sizable, option is Camilla, whose smaller frame has a cheeky yet elegant version in cheetah printed calf leather.

The clutch worthy faves earn extra points for the neat little tricks they hold. Emma is a sexy shoulder bag whose strap can be snapped off so it can be carried as a purse instead. Dita is a shapely handheld bag that has a detachable chain link strap, giving you the option to carry it on your sleeve. It's on display in a brilliant silvery snakeskin at the boutique. Sophie is the crystal-adorned, long flap clutch that has a handy little mirror to help you keep yourself in check.

Time to meet the other ladies of Rafē New York's Fall '08 line. Click on.
