One of the most exciting things about pageantry is the fashion. The candidates go all out for the evening gowns and national costumes, and of course, they strut their best assets in gorgeous bikini sets, too. Now, for this year's competition, the swimwear segment proved to be a special one. What with legendary couturier Furne One of Amato Couture personally had a hand in the official swimsuit the girls wore!

Preview had the chance to catch up with Furne himself where he shares the work he has done together with Amari swimwear to come up with a stunning set of swimsuit for the Miss Universe Philippines candidates. According to Furne, he has learned that designing pieces "was not about [himself]." It's always been about who will wear the clothes, Furne emphasizes. And in this case, the women he had in mind were modern and intelligent Filipinas. Hence, he yearned to create a swimwear look that empowered them.

Tasked to create swimwear, a deviation from his usual couture gowns and dresses, it posed a challenge Furne that he gladly took. After all, he's a proud Filipino and he holds dear his heritage. Being given a chane to showcase his love for the country through his pieces was a sweet deal he couldn't pass up. "My [style] DNA will always be present to everything that I do [and for me,] the embodiment of my Filipino heritage will always be the unconditional love and hard work that we put into the journey of making the swimwear and couture jackets," Furne tells Preview.

Furne also adds that his primary inspiration for the swimsuit and jackets were "unity and patriotism." He says that "it's all about the love for our country and our women." The result was a boxy, translucent, feather-trimmed jacket that bore embellished dove prints all over.

To Furne, his choice of material—a light, sheer fabric, feather trimmings, and shimmering, colorful doves—were symbolisms that allude to the modern Filipina. Furne pictures her as a beacon of "purity and simplicity." She is a "phenomenal woman who is strong and powerful who has always been ready to face the universe." Well-said, Furne!
