Freeway, the contemporary Filipino clothing brand that has been advocating “fashionalism” for seasons past, has invoked the memory of another great Filipino artist for its latest capsule collection for its National Artist Collector's Series.
They've chosen poet, painter, and fictionist Jose Garcia Villa, one of the finest artists of the Philippines' literary nobility, for their latest fashionalistic installment. Through Villa's uncanny mastery and manipulation of both the Filipino and English languages, he executed astute self-expression in a way that astounded and impressed Filipino and American literati alike. Because of his unimpeachable literary prowess, his oeuvre and influence, he was named National Artist for Literature on Independence Day in 1973.
Through graphic prints featured on tees, leggings, tops, dresses, bags, and accessories, Freeway showcases the words and sketches of Jose Garcia Villa, reminding us, once again, that we can cloak ourselves in love and pride for Filipino talent and artistry.
