If you've already taken to planting yourself in front of the TV at 9:30pm every night to catch Magkaribal, then you're also clued in on the designers, society style icons, and industry professionals who play supporting parts in the teleserye. We caught up with Frederick Peralta, who stars as himself, a designer and member of the fictional Fashion Designers Guild of the Philippines (FDGP, get it?), to ask about his adventures in showbusiness.
HOW WERE YOU APPROACHED BY THE SHOW'S PRODUCERS TO STAR IN THE SERIES, AND WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION?
I was approached by the executive producer and she told me that the director was also requesting me to be part of the show. Of course I asked, “Why me?” and she replied that they needed a real designer and a household name for that matter. It took me a couple of weeks to contemplate whether to say yes or no, and I solicited some advice from my friends from showbiz and colleagues. It was the working schedule I was so worried [about] because I definitely [had] to reorganize my working system. [But ultimately] I was given consideration with my request for time adjustment.
It's a good decision that I joined the cast, and it has been a great experience. In this teleserye there are so many characters and interesting plots to watch. The story is so beautiful.
PLEASE DESCRIBE YOUR CHARACTER FOR US. HOW ARE YOU LIKE HIM IN REAL LIFE?
My character is a director of the FDGP, an association of designers with Vera (Angel Aquino) and Victoria (Gretchen Barretto) at the helm. In real life I've been an officer and one of the directors of FDAP (Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines) and FDCP (Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines).
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CO-STARS? HAVE YOU WORKED WITH THEM IN REAL LIFE?
I’m so overwhelmed with the cast and crew of the show. They have a lot of patience to teach us how to relax and not be intimidated by them. They (especially the directors) make me feel like I belong. I've worked with most of the cast in my own fashion shows and pictorials.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE SHOW AND THE WAY IT PORTRAYS THE FILIPINO FASHION INDUSTRY AND THE PEOPLE IN IT?
I think they're very sensitive with how they portray the fashion industry. Sometimes they consult us on some situational matters. They want us to project the intriguing and glamorous world of fashion.
Magkaribal airs every Monday to Friday at 9:10-9:50 PM on ABS-CBN.
