FRANCIS LIBIRAN'S HELLO KITTY COLLECTION IS NOW IN A MUSEUM

And no, we're not talking about a childhood stuffed toy collection.
FRANCIS LIBIRAN'S HELLO KITTY COLLECTION IS NOW IN A MUSEUM And no, we're not talking about a childhood stuffed toy collection.

Remember that ANTM season where the British ladies went head-to-head with the feisty USA women? Yes, the very same season that introduced pink-haired Sophie Sumner as the winner of Cycle 18. Well, it was a British invasion, alright, but a Pinoy talent also found his shining moment amidst all those models.

First runner-up, Laura, in Hello Kitty lunch boxes.

Francis Libiran gave the beribboned kitty cat a high fashion look when he created a Hello Kitty Couture Collection for one of the themed weekly challenges on the show. According to Francis, Tyra specifically wanted Hello Kitty because she is apparently her favorite character of all-time. Francis then turned his Project Runway mode on and produced eight pink-splashed-avant garde show-stoppers using atypical materials. As if raiding the contents of an entire Sanrio store, he turned lunch boxes, seat covers, bandaids and stuffed animals into eight looks - all in just three weeks!

The exhibit at the Japanese-American National Museum.

These creations didn't go unnoticed because they are now being showcased at the Japanese American National Museum in LA. More than just being a whiskered cat with a yellow button nose, Hello Kitty is deeply intertwined with Japanese culture that it was given a whole exhibit dedicated to it. It will soon tour key cities in the US this year. Meow!

Filipino fashion design icon Francis Libiran is warmly welcomed by the President and CEO of the Japanese American National Museum Dr. Greg Kimura.

Francis is the only Filipino artist (the most visited one at that), who had his masterpieces featured in the lineup.
