If you thought we were leaving microtrends in 2024, think again. Pinterest has released its annual Pinterest Predicts report, sharing 20 different trends in fashion and beauty—and this year, one trend we’re eyeing is Fisherman Core. With over half a billion users searching, pinning, and shopping their way through the platform, according to Pinterest, their predictions have been 80% accurate in the last five years with Gen Z leading the charge. In 2025, it will be all about dressing like a North Atlantic fisherman.
What Is Fisherman Core?
Fisherman Core is inspired by nautical clothing. This aesthetic leans into warm, comfortable layers and functional pieces that are perfect for a day of fishing, boating, or a rainy commute. Think: raincoats, cable knit sweaters, knee-high boots, jumpsuits, and tees depicting maritime motifs. It’s similar to the Eclectic Grandpa aesthetic if your eclectic grandpa were to live in a coastal area.
The best part about this microtrend is how versatile it is. In terms of color palette, you can stick to the classic blue, white, and red with neutrals or turn yourself into a Wes Anderson movie character and use primary colors for a more fun and dopamine-inducing approach.

One international muse who’s been acing the Fisherman Core aesthetic is none other than British style icon Alexa Chung. Cable knit sweaters and overcoats are practically staples in her wardrobe, and given her love for yachting, spending time by the coast, and living in rainy, gloomy England, she’s the very epitome of the trend.

But Alexa isn’t the only one embracing this cozy trend. Local celebrities like Sofia Andres and her beau Daniel Miranda have also been spotted rocking the Fisherman Core aesthetic. Whether intentional or not, their 'fits definitely hit the mark.
