"What’s this all about?" you might wonder.
The Philippine Fashion Coalition, a national alliance formed by fashion professionals in June to provide business support for the industry during this time of crisis, is behind this movement. Carmina Sanchez-Jacob, a marketing communications consultant who works with a number of designers and brands, explains that they wanted to create online traction whose next step would be to buy local. Hence, the pledge in the caption above to “support our artisans, designers, creatives, businesses, and my beloved local fashion industry.”
“The idea is to empower the Filipino fashion industry and inspire each other by wearing a Filipino-made piece (old or new) and posting a photo or video [on social media],” she says. “This allows us to continuously celebrate our creativity as a nation and champion its preservation. It’s a thrust to help keep Filipino fashion alive and relevant through the many weeks and months that we foresee that this pandemic will go on for.”
Whether you wear a favorite designer piece or something from a local brand, everyone is invited and encouraged to make this a Friday habit. Apart from an OOTD post, nominating friends to also post helps spread awareness. Make sure to include the caption, share the name of the brand or designer of what you are wearing, and use the hashtags #FFF, #FilipinoFashionFridays, #PFC, #PhilippineFashionCoalition, #beloyaltolocal, #beloyaltolocalfashion. This is so that the message doesn’t get lost as more people join the movement.
