Fashion industry legend, Cesar Gaupo, passed away on the morning of Saturday, January 19, 2019. He was 72. A source said the designer died in his sleep after celebrating his birthday with close friends on January 18.
Cesar started his career in the '70s and had been known to incessantly reinvent his design sensibilities. He dressed several of the country's celebrities and personalities and even made a name in the international fashion scene. He was Chinese luxury brand Shanghai Tang's creative director from 2002 to 2005.
The fashion industry grieves the passing of this great talent and mentor.
"Cesar was one of the kindest souls in our fashion industry. He was always so joyful, and in my mind, forever youthful. He was always ready with a compliment and continuously encouraging everyone to do their best. I remember at a shoot for Patrick Rosas’s book, we were together and he told me that he loved my work and he was so proud of me. That meant the world to me. He taught me how important it was to be nice. Because in this crazy world of fashion, Cesar was a rare breed. Forever relevant and forever loved," Rajo Laurel shares.
