Watch Out for These Filipino Designers You'll See in Crazy Rich Asians

One of the things we love the most about the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians film adaptation is that it loudly, proudly celebrates and showcases Southeast Asian fashion talent. “Although we may have used international designers for our principals, whenever we could we put clothes from the local designers in, [we would],” the movie's head costume designer Mary Vogt shared to Vanity Fair. “Even though everyone was doing modern clothes, if you come from that part of the world, there’s a little bit of a different flavor to the designs that you would get from a New York designer or a Paris designer or a London designer.”

His Paris Couture Week shows are a veritable whirlwind of incredibly detailed beadwork and masterful embroidery, never a speck of lace out of place, which is why Princess Intan (Kris Aquino) dons a regal yellow cape and frock by him to attend Asia's most sensational nuptials.

Neil, a young designer based in sunny Cebu, is certainly no stranger to the red carpet. His intricate, handmade minaudieres are favored for glittering evenings out by the likes of local stars Anne Curtis, Heart Evangelista, Sarah Lahbati, Pia Wurtzbach, and Megan Young, and with good reason: He uses a unique, long-lost wax casting technique to craft the tiny golden figurines that sit perched on his bags' iridescent, jewel-hued, stone-like bodies. Mary says: “Most of his handbags were on Astrid (Gemma Chan), and she pretty much always had one...They’re just absolutely beautiful. A gold sculpted mermaid! I mean, the bags really are art pieces.”
