The concept of the “thrift flip” is becoming increasingly popular amongst fashionistas. For those who aren’t aware of it, it’s the process of upcycling used clothes into brand new items. Well, whether or not you’ve seen a ton of thrift flip videos on YouTube or TikTok, we found one instance that will surely make your jaw drop—and it’s from a local netizen!
Kassandra Jaen Pepito is a student based in Cebu, whose thrift flips have gone viral on Facebook. Last September 27, the Cebuana shared all her DIY projects thus far. She shares in the caption that it was a way for her to destress and to stay busy before school starts. Her post included over 60 photos that captured the before-and-after process of each piece. These items not only came from the ukay-ukay but from her mother or grandmother’s wardrobe as well.
Most of the items she upcycled were old button-downs, vintage skirts, and blouses with outdated silhouettes. However, she was able to magically transform them into trendy coords, cropped tops, puff sleeve blouses, and dainty ruched pieces. They’re so beautiful that you won’t believe she made everything by hand—without a sewing machine!

Told you it would make your jaw drop! Kassandra’s thrift flips don’t stop there, though. She also reveals in the post that she, along with a friend, have set up an Instagram account dedicated to showcasing all their DIY projects that will be up for sale. Called Chag Co., the brand aims to lessen waste produced by the fashion industry by giving old items a second life. It’s a manifestation of Kassandra’s interest in sustainable fashion.
Kassandra is no professional seamstress or fashion expert, as she says in the caption, but her thrift flips are proof that anyone can turn their passion into something productive!
