Project Runway is finally coming back for its 16th season, bringing in a new roster of aspiring designers. While watching the show's latest promotional video, we spotted Filipina model Samantha Gomez included in this season's model line up!
In the video above, host Heidi Klum introduced the models, who walked into the frame led by Samantha, as part of the changes to be anticipated this season. Now if you've been following the hit reality show, you know that designers are tasked to create pieces for runway models who usually wear size zero. But this season, Project Runway is bringing in women of diverse shapes and sizes ranging from size zero to 22.
Samantha tells Preview about her casting experience, "Like any other castings my agency sends me to, Project Runway was one of them." She went through "the usual digital and runway walk tests, along with many other girls hoping to get in." She adds that when her "agency confirmed [she] was going to be a part of it, [she] got excited!"
She describes her experience on set, being the "only Asian and Filipino," as a very proud experience, representing the country. Sam further narrates, "I met tons of amazing people from the designers, to models, to judges, to crew and staff. Everyone was really friendly, everyone was so nice, and they took really good care of us."
Samantha's stint at Project Runway may be her biggest break yet, but she's not new to the modeling biz. In fact, you may remember her as the then-14-year-old girl from Pampanga who bagged the Supermodel of the World title in the Philippine leg of Ford Models' 2011 competition held in New York, following the footsteps of Danica Magpantay who won the same contest in 2010. And because of this feat, Sam was able to propel her modeling career forward.
Sam is represented by CalCarrie's International Models Philippines. She's often booked to walk for local fashion shows like Philippine Fashion Week and Manila Fashion Fest, not to mention her international stints in Paris. She is also signed to Major Model New York, and it seems she's also currently based in the Big Apple.
