Poblacion, Makati still remains to be the cool crowd's place for unwinding, partying, and discovering new music. No wonder it's this year's Fête de la Musique venue last June 21 and 22. For its 25th anniversary in the Philippines, the much-awaited Music Day (also celebrated in 120 countries) highlighted 10 genres, each played live in Pob's bars.
Since music is a form of expression—the same way fashion is—different tribes have different vibes. But for Fête de la Musique, dressing up means keeping the venue in mind, too. Here's your guide on what to wear to Fête and a future night out in Poblacion, based on your type of music.
1. R&B
Venue: Z Hostel
R&B is all about feeling good and singing along. For a night of dancey hits, wear a breezy mini linen frock in lavender or coral. Style it with sneakers so it looks more rooftop-bar-ready and less lady-by-the-beach.
2. Electronic
Venue: XX XX
Expect dancing and jumping to this kind of music. This means sneakers, so dress them up with a black tank and black paper-bag trousers for an upgraded take on an otherwise basic look.
3. Indie Electro
Venue: Run Rabbit Run
Run Rabbit Run's dim space has that speakeasy vibe that's perfect for dressing up. It's not as hot as the other venues, so you can throw on an oversized lightweight blazer, worn with matching trousers, a cropped top, and sneakers. Plus points for having a pop of color.
4. Dream Pop or Shoegaze
Venue: 59C
59C is quite far from the other bars you'll check out, so if you're itching to wear heels, slip on block heels. Match it with a pair of tailored high-waisted shorts and a sexy sheer top.
5. Boom Bap
Venue: Boogie Manila
For a night of '90 hip-hop (a.k.a. boom bap) appreciation, don a pair of light-wash mom jeans. Style it with a cropped top and open-circle stud earrings to complete the '90s nostalgia.
6. OC Records
Venue: The Ruins
The Ruins is a relatively bigger venue, but it was packed with indie rock lovers. Wear a one-piece swimsuit as a top, and style it with jeans for a classy, cool look.
7. Mt. Zion or Reggae
Venue: Pura Vida
When we heard tie-dye has a comeback this year, we're pretty sure every reggae-lover rejoiced. Wear tie-dye, but make it fashion with fun color play. Style an oversized, lightweight, yellow tie-dye button-down with shorts in the same or complementing yellow palette, and then cinch it with a skinny belt. Finish the look with bright strappy sandals that are easy to walk in; Pura Vida's prime location ensures it'll just be one of the many stops you'll hit in the area.
8. Rooftronic
Venue: Kartel Rooftop Bar
If you're expecting a sweat fest during dancing, look fresh in an all-white ensemble consisting of a silk tank top tucked in a skirt.
9. Blues, Soul, and Funk
Venue: H&J Sports Bar and Restaurant
A night of soul and swagger doesn't have to feel so rugged or dark. Low-key dress up in a little black dress and add some contrast with white accessories. It's an easy, no-fail look.
10. Zodiac
Venue: Gallery in the Gutter
To complement the artsy interiors of GIG, wear a midi skirt with a shirt, styled with a bucket hat and chunky dad sneaks—in black and white, of course.
