There's something so wonderfully glamorous about the design aesthetic of Cebuano designers. There's Jun Escario, whose recent Fashion Watch Holiday 2011 collection dripped with elegance and luxury. There's Cary Santiago, whose intricate and inspired couture creations never fail to fascinate and astound. And then there's Philip Rodriguez, the vanguard of old world romanticism, who showcased his Holiday 2011 collection at Fashion Watch following the more casual outing of Patrice Ramos-Diaz.
Philip Rodriguez is one of the Philippines' senior designers who hold aloft classic, romantic style, and his lineup was nothing short of timeless and beautiful, with lovely evening gowns, cocktail dresses, and luxe separates in an array of rich, sumptuous fabrics—gleaming satins, bejeweled laces, stretchy jerseys embellished with fabric florettes. He kept the color story darkly romantic, with black and red dominating the collection, with a few swashes of champagne and dusty ecru appearing to inject light and sparkle into the lineup. Two hot pink pieces showed, too, and they were quite refreshing—splashing playful youth and vigor into the mature, regal collection.
