Patrice Ramos-Diaz divulged to us in a sit-down interview that she's taking a break from the couture/custom-order biz to expand on the less demanding prêt-à-porter side of her trade. Having spent well over a decade in the fashion design industry, the break is also Patrice's way of slowing down to spend much needed time with her family.

If this is any indication of where Patrice is right now, design-wise, it would come as no surprise that chic, minimalist wearability greatly characterizes her latest collection, which walked in Fashion Watch 2011 last Thursday, May 5. While Patrice's pieces have always been wearable and replete with retail potential (she was appointed Creative Director of workwear brand Viseversa late last year), she seems to have upped the ante on the luxe bit, at least, showcasing satiny floor-grazing skirts that would be appropriately stylish for dressy evening events. But to bring the pieces back to sartorial reality, the long skirts are paired with these crafty tops sewn from retaso—scraps of cotton t-shirt material that Patrice has upcycled, having been inspired by the eco-change that needs to happen following the wake of the Japan tsunami and earthquake and various other calamities around the globe.

Upcycling is a main feature of the collection, what with a hefty percentage of the garments being crafted from strips of the shirting fabric, as Patrice says herself in her Fashion Watch Prelude video. The collection was also created with artful personas in mind—young creatives who garb themselves in the most basic of clothing choices, made more interesting with twists of idiosyncratic design details. Lastly, to keep it fuss-free and simple, a color story of neutrals was used, with pops of color in the accessories designed by Joyce Oreña, which likewise used organic materials that essentially tied in with Patrice's organic design direction.
