Fashion Watch 2011: Ferdi Abuel The designer modernizes '40s fashion with sportswear elements and streamlined tailoring.

Ferdi Abuel has a deep affinity for the ultra-feminine silhouette of '40s fashion, and it was one of the mainstays of his Holiday 2011 collection for Fashion Watch. The paired ensembles whittle the waist with peplumed skirts and tailored little jackets with deep décolletages that further draw the eyes down to the waist, while the long dresses are belted with velvet ribbons to best show off that womanly figure.

But there are boxier silhouettes, too, in the form of dressed up sportswear. Shredded sports jersey is layered on top of bright orange and royal blue fabric for blazers and knee-length shorts. Some models even donned Converse sneaks instead of heels to make the looks more grounded, so to speak.

What also stood out were the ensembles cut from the softest and sheerest of lace-print fabrics. Looking like a dainty snakeskin print from afar, these pieces are all about ladylike ferocity. Another must-have is this art-print caftan, which was a favorite of Pauline Juan. We urge you to get your paws on them, if Pauline hasn't already.
