Though it's called Barrio Dance, there's nothing insular or provincial about Dennis Lustico's Holiday 2011 collection for Fashion Watch. Inspired by the small town revelry scenes in the Salvador Dalí biopic Little Ashes, Dennis distills the creative and social esprit of Spain in the 1920s and 30s and infuses it into his latest lineup. What results is a cocktail collection of chic evening dresses that pulsate in colorful, embellished splendor.

Silhouettes are kept close to the body in figure-flattering cuts, with neckline play in a lot of the dresses. The sheerest of mesh is used in the bodice of some of the dresses, beaded with glittering orbs on the bust and on the sleeves, just so, such that from afar the lady looks like she's topped with nothing but a sanguine sprinkling of beads. The technique looks divine on model Jessica Yang, as it does on another model who shows off a "halter" version (the mesh is seen upon closer observation). Other dresses are sewn with nary a bead but are no less resplendent, as in the case of this turmeric and cream dress with an indigo mesh front and this lapis lazuli floor-length number,

More than anything, though, the color play in Dennis's collection is its strongest attribute. The vibrant red he chose for this standout piece, the golden sunshine of his opening number, and the elegant combination of mustard and cobalt blue in this sculptural dress begs us to revel more in color, as Dalí himself was wont to do.
